D.J. Batapola has a proud heritage that began in 1931 when Mr. D. James Silva opened a retail boutique to serve the everyday needs of local villagers. As the business evolved, it expanded into the hardware sector and entered new markets, consistently setting new standards for quality and service.
After Mr. Silva’s retirement, his son, Mr. D. Chandradasa, stepped in to ensure the company’s continued growth and innovation. In 1977, with the open economic policies, he transformed the business by importing motorcycles from Japan and then sold those to customers on an easy payment basis. However, as the manufacturing tax on imports began to impact the Japanese motorcycle market in the early 1990s, the company quickly adapted by shifting focus to the Indian motorcycle industry. Since then, we have become a leading provider of financing solutions for motorcycles in Sri Lanka, partnering with local agents and dealers to deliver exceptional service.
Today, with branches in Borella, Kohuwala, Matara, and Ambalangoda, D.J. Group Batapola, continues to grow, embracing new opportunities and expanding offerings. Under the leadership of Mr. Mahesh Chandradasa, the current Managing Director who is the son of Mr. D. Chandradasa, we are proud to carry forward a legacy of excellence while the business transitions into the fourth generation.
